For me it's a symptom of lacking confidence/knowing yourself; if your goal is to impress others/"raise your status" you gonna be miserable in the end. You will always be filled with emptiness if you need to feed on other's judgement/praise. That for me is real slavery. Slaved from your feelings, and from an empty goal. Happiness and true success, for me, comes from building a life around your true values, or having an impact in an area that really gets your interest, not to impress others, but because you deeply care about it.

I 100% agree, I think Education is the area where there is the biggest leverage on solving most of problems Humans are facing. Not talking just about the educational system (I'm not american so I can't really comment yours), but Education with a big E. Helping Humans acquire basic skills that will help them develop as thinking beings; not enslaving them. Things like how to use logic thinking, how to learn by yourself, how to adapt to novelty, the importance of conscious learning, and understanding the impact of one's actions on the rest of society (aka how to give a fuck about others and not just yourself).
